Five E Model

Here at the science department at my school they have a focus on implementing the 5 E’s (also known as e5) teaching and learning model. Using the stages of Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate and Evaluate in curriculum development.

Firstly, you don't have to incorporate all 5 E's at once  - or in the same lesson. It is more a overall model to help design or structure a topic. It starts with an engage activity - it might be a big question, a current problem/event or a picture. The way I see this stage is it gets the students hooked and involved with the upcoming topic.
Another thing to note is that the Explain and Explore an cycle round - in fact most can. As there will be times where students Explore then the teacher will need to Explain before Exploring again.
More information can be found on the Department of Education website or here.
